Is this an example of a good joke or bad taste? After all, what can you possibly say about a boat named “Panty Ripper”? We saw this driving north on the 405 in Culver City a few months ago, and just found the picture in our photo library. Do you think it is a good joke or bad taste to have something like this on display for all to see?
Is there a difference between lowering the bar and getting laughs from shock value? If it brings awareness of the issue of rape prevention and violence against women, is it worth it?
Of course it is meant to be a joke, but is it actually funny? There are lots of people who would say no, but that is part of the humor–it is in such poor taste that no one could possibly approve of that name unless it was a joke. Besides, everyone is different. Should we censor our personalities and characteristics?
Does the fact that young kids could read it matter? People go to some pretty great lengths to protect their kids from stuff like this, so does the owner have the right to name his boat whatever he wants? And who in the world spends the money to buy a boat and give it a name like that, anyways? Seems like a really expensive homage to Kenny Powers.
What is the difference between a good joke or bad taste to you?
We wanted to hear your thoughts on where you stand in the comments. Yes, we realize that, if it is in bad taste, then we are just perpetuating the problem. Sorry. We thought it was worth mentioning, and we thought it was a funny way to bring awareness to an unfunny issue.
